Backupia: A Short-Lived Saga of Swamp Reclamation, Gold, and Global Conflict
Backupia was a server nation founded in 2024 by settlers including AckeCraft and xisneros. They developed the swampy region near the Bay of Maracaibo into a powerful state through major terraforming, economic success (gold/Central Bank), and controversial social policies. Backupia survived the Trost War against the Empire of Japan and later engaged in key alliances and military operations, like the Siege of Carthage. Its history ended abruptly on July 20, 2024, when the server closed, leading to the creation of the successor state, Bakoubiya.

Founding and Early Consolidation
The story of Backupia began in 2024 when a small contingent of settlers, including AckeCraft, momslayer1 (galeriu), and Rangle, journeyed from the Brazilian jungle to the Bay of Maracaibo. After selecting a valley location, the group expanded with the arrival of SekaTGG (xisneros), TiberiusDoom, and SwedishGlory, marking the end of the initial migration.
The founders chose a challenging site, establishing Backupia in a swamp region that necessitated extensive terraforming for stability. The first structures were TiberiusDoom's house and the crucial Town Hall, the administrative hub. Rangle and SekaTGG spearheaded a major early project: building the Colossus of Backupia using copper sourced from Carcassonne.
Leadership was formalized with AckeCraft's selection as mayor. During this foundational period, the government introduced the controversial Anti Immigration laws and created a unique flag combining Scandinavian design with the colors of Cola Zero. Early international friction arose when TiberiusDoom killed an Albertan citizen, a diplomatic incident that was eventually resolved. Domestically, SekaTGG introduced villagers to the town, formalizing the practice of slavery and establishing the lowest social group in Backupian society.
Economic Power and External Conflicts
Backupia swiftly developed economic prowess, primarily through the Central Economic District, which generated significant wealth via gold extraction and trade in items from the End. The nation celebrated a major achievement when AckeCraft, Rangle, and SekaTGG defeated the Wither, resulting in the construction of the Backupia beacon. A separate dispute over a gifted beacon led to Backupia removing a player named Asssailant to prevent conflict with Texas, returning the item to him.
Economic centralization was solidified with the founding of the Central Bank of Backupia by AckeCraft and Rangle, making it a major financial entity.
The young nation soon faced its greatest challenge: the Trost War, where the Empire of Japan laid siege to Backupia. Though initially struggling, Backupia rallied with military support from Texas, securing a defensive victory. The Empire of Japan eventually collapsed following administrative intervention against its leader. Backupia capitalized on this victory, expanding across nearby mountains and clashing with a rival group known as The Cartel, a conflict that ended with the banning of The Cartel's leader.
Diplomacy and the Final Alliance
Backupia transitioned into a phase of active diplomacy, forming a key alliance with the Aztec Empire and Italy. When the United Nations declared war on Italy, Backupia offered support but prudently withdrew due to the enemy's overwhelming force, leading to a conclusion without territorial changes.
Paradoxically, the United Nations later sought to improve relations, leading to a joint military operation against Carthage—the successful Siege of Carthage. This operation boosted Backupia’s international standing, enabling diplomatic expansion, including the entry of Mexico into the Free State of Backupia and a significant alliance with the Romanian Union.
This period of economic and diplomatic activity continued until the server's sudden and permanent closure by moderators on July 20, 2024. The closure halted Backupia’s development, concluding its political, economic, and social timeline. The spirit of the short-lived nation now lives on through its spiritual successor, Bakoubiya, under the leadership of xisneros.
